Kansas City, Kansas showed off its pride this weekend as the community gathered for the annual 913 Day celebration, a day honoring Wyandotte County’s culture, history, and people.
A Parade Down Quindaro
A highlight was the colorful parade that rolled along Quindaro Boulevard at noon. Spectators lined the streets to cheer as marching bands, dance teams, and horseback riders brought music and movement to the neighborhood. Local politics were also on display, with many of the candidates running in the November general election marching or riding in the parade to meet voters face-to-face.
Adding a unique flair, the Show Me State Jeeperz Jeep Club crossed the river to join the festivities, showing the kind of regional support the celebration has built over the years.
Vendors, Music, and Memorial Hall
After the parade, crowds filled the For Us, By Us vendor fair spread across the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Quindaro. Dozens of local businesses and artisans sold food, clothing, and crafts, underscoring the celebration’s role in supporting entrepreneurs of color.
Hats off to BlacKCK MarQet, producer of both the 913 Day parade and vendor fair.
913 Day weekend also featured the Memorial Hall Centennial Celebration, which kicked off Friday with a block party. The downtown landmark — itself a symbol of Wyandotte County’s history — became a gathering place filled with food, games, vendors, and live music.
Meanwhile, restaurants across the 913 offered specials and discounts to mark the occasion, inviting residents to dine local and celebrate community pride.
