Local artists will have a rare chance to learn from industry leaders at an upcoming conference that costs less than a movie ticket.

The 2024 Arts Conference, set for Nov. 2 at the Zhou B Arts Center, brings together eight speakers covering topics from art therapy to financial literacy. The full-day event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The $10 ticket includes breakfast, lunch, and access to all sessions. The event is organized by the 18th & Vine Arts Festival, and conference attendees will also receive exclusive discounts on future festival application fees.

The conference aims to help artists develop both creative and business skills. Sessions cover practical topics like marketing, sustainable art practices, and financial management.

Featured speakers include:

  • Harold Smith – The KC-based artist and community leader will speak on navigating leadership in the arts.
  • Celia Ruiz – An art therapist, Ruiz will explore art as a therapeutic tool.
  • Dante Crawford – Representing US Bank, Crawford will teach financial literacy for artists.
  • Cedric Williams – Williams, a marketing specialist, will share social media strategy.
  • Kar Woo- The founder of Artists Helping the Homeless, will discuss art’s role in social change.
  • Godfrey Riddle – Founder of Civic Saint and environmental expert, Riddle will present eco-friendly art practices.
  • Nia Richardson – Representing the KC BizCare Office, Richardson will outline the business resources that are available during the lunch session.
  • Courtney Wasson -The Executive Director of Kansas City Artists Coalition, closes the conference with collaboration strategies.

After the art conference, the 18th & Vine Arts Festival will also host a banquet, and a ticket to the conference will cover both events. The banquet is a formal event with a cash bar, live DJ, and appetizers. 

The banquet runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and includes award presentations, prize giveaways, and a recap of this year’s festival highlights.
