Jannette Berkley-Patton, Ph.D., of the UMKC School of Medicine has been awarded a $3.3 million, 5-year grant by the National Institutes of Health to help improve diabetes prevention outcomes with African Americans. The grant is the continuation of the School of Medicine’s Project FIT,(Faith Influencing Transformation). At UMKC, Berkley-Patton has won more than $10 million in federal grants over the past 14 years, with each centering on health inequities and community-engaged research with African-American community-based organizations, including places of worship because of their cultural importance.
