Former Kansas City, Missouri City Council Member Jermaine Reed was honored as the recipient of the Alvin Brooks Award at the 76th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 1st, at the critical fundraising event themed “Honor The Blue with the Boys in Blue,” presented by QuikTrip.
The Alvin Brooks Award recognizes a distinguished community leader who exemplifies the dedication to law enforcement and community service demonstrated by Kansas City icon, Alvin Brooks. Mr. Brooks, a foundational figure in Kansas City, was one of the first African Americans to serve in the KCPD, a prominent civil rights leader, and the founder of the nonprofit Ad Hoc Group Against Crime.
Upon accepting the award, Reed expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, particularly its association with his long-time mentor and friend.
“To receive an award named for a mentor and friend is an incomparable honor,” said Reed. “For over three decades, I’ve stood with Alvin Brooks on the front lines, working shoulder-to-shoulder to fight crime and violence and offer comfort and support to the families victimized in our community. This award is a testament to the principles he embodies: service, dedication, and community leadership.”
The honor acknowledges Reed’s sustained commitment to public safety and community advocacy throughout his career in the city. The Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission hosts the annual luncheon to support its vital mission in crime prevention and community engagement.
