Yard sign that says Reparations is a Positive Solutions to Economic Disparity. We all Win
National Black United Front and the Mayor's Commission on Reparations will provide an update on reparations in Kansas City.

The National Black United Front – Kansas City (NBUF-KC) will host its monthly Liberation Forum on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. at the organization’s office, 7714 Prospect Ave. in Kansas City.

This month’s forum will focus on the state of the reparations movement in Kansas City. Speakers will include Mickey Dean, a founding member of NBUF-KC and co-founder of the KC Reparations Coalition, who will discuss the history of the reparations movement and its progress nationally and internationally. Terri Barnes, chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Reparations, will also provide an update on the commission’s work, which includes developing proposals for reparatory justice for Black Kansas Citians. A research team has recently been hired and will begin its work soon.

“There are still some questions among our people about what reparations are and how will we get them here in Kansas City,” said Jawanza Hardy, chair of NBUF-KC. “This update is necessary at this point to let people know that the work is moving forward.”

Refreshments will be served at the meeting, which is free and open to the public.

NBUF-KC, which has a long history of advocacy in Kansas City’s Black community, is dedicated to the struggle for self-determination, liberation, and power for African people in the U.S. and throughout the diaspora.
