The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, fresh off winning the prestigious Paul Robeson Award, is kicking off its new season with an imaginative take on a classic fairy tale. “Hip Hop Cinderella” launches audiences into an intergalactic adventure where the traditional story gets a fresh spin. Set on planet Zolla, teenage Cinderella and her rapping robot companion, Runka, face off against a social-media-obsessed stepfamily while competing in an epic Hip Hop Ball to restore the galaxy’s groove. This family-friendly musical features a talented cast of six, bringing this space-age story to life through dynamic hip-hop numbers.
