Why would conservative groups, not known for supporting Democrats, invest heavily in a Wyandotte County Democratic Primary?

Both Americans for Prosperity and Kansas Family Voice have invested in mailers supporting incumbent KS Rep. Marvin Robinson.

Robinson, a Democrat, is a one-term representative from the 35th district in Kansas City, KS.  The fact that three opponents have stepped up to unseat him, should make his constituents wonder what’s up.  However, his support from conservative groups should set off loud alarms.

Although Robinson is an elected Democrat, he’s essentially switched teams and began voting with Republicans. Robinson has reportedly voted with Republicans 95% of the time.  who is in a highly contested four-way race to hold on to his seat representing the 35th District in Northeast KCK.

The conservative groups have produced slick, well-designed market pieces that skew Robinson’s record.

Robinson is hailed as a “champion for fairness” and for “putting House District 35 families first.” Yes, these words are meant to describe a man who voted against food assistance and the rights of trans kids.

Another mailer lauds Robinson’s support for term limits. A fourth somehow links Robinson to former president Barack Obama. It even uses the distinctive “O” logo.

The connection? Robinson is credited with “helping Barack Obama win our state’s 2008 Democratic caucus.”

The mailer is misleading when you consider that many of Robinson’s votes at the Statehouse counter priorities from Obama’s actual party.
