It’s pretty likely that when the audience gathers in June there won’t be many people familiar with a “didgeridoo.”
By the end of the show, however, the memorable, otherworldly sound of the instrument played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1,500 years will be an experience not soon forgotten.
The Didgeridoo Down Under show is coming to the Alford Branch of the Wichita Public Library on Mon., June 24, at 2:30 p.m., and the Evergreen Branch on Tue., June 25, at 6:30 p.m.
The free show mixes Australian music, culture, puppetry, comedy and storytelling and encourages audience movement and participation and is part of the Wichita Public Library’s summer reading program live performance series.
The show, called “Adventure Down Under,” will feature music from the didgeridoo and explores the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, and introduces children and families to kangaroos, koalas and more.
It also aligns well with the 2024 iRead theme “Read, Renew, Report.” The library has been promoting reading and environmentalism in its shows for almost two decades.
As with all shows at the Wichita Public Library, the Didgeridoo Down Under shows are open to the public for free.
