Malcolm Carter, a former Wichita reporter for The Community Voice, is moving up and out.
Carter, who has become an active member of the Wichita community, has accepted a position in Detroit with RISE, a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations.
Carter describes the transition to RISE as a strategic move that aligns with his career goals.
A Detroit native, Carter was recruited to join The Community Voice as part of the Report for America program. He joined The Voice immediately after graduating from Hampton University, an HBCU in Hampton, VA, with a degree in journalism.
After The Voice, he met and assisted many members of the Wichita community through his work with the COVID-19 Facts Not Fears campaign. It was there that he demonstrated the leadership and community building skills that will be important in his work with RISE. He later served as a regional promotions manager for Audacy, Inc.owners of Wichita’s POWER 93.5 Radio.
Carter says he plans to continue giving back to underserved communities.
“Over the past two and a half years, Wichita has afforded me the opportunity to build a foundation for long-term success, and I’m profoundly thankful for the privilege of being a part of such an amazing community,”
