Are you 14 to 17 years old, living in Wichita or Sedgwick County, and looking for a summer job?

Your answer might be The Way to Work Summer Youth Program, designed to help provide young people with the tools and resources they need to become successful in the workforce.

This year, The Way to Work will hire 175 temporary/part-time seasonal workers who gain knowledge through positive work experiences and learn how to help meet the needs of the community through the jobs they do.

To participate, you must be at least 14 but younger than 17 by June 1. You must live in Wichita or in Sedgwick County and you must meet income eligibility requirements. Wichita Housing Authority director Sally Stang says the program is aimed at the younger workers because youth 17 and over have more choices in the mainstream work force.

Youth hired for the program can put “city employee” on their resume and may be assigned to jobs in various departments from Park and Recreation to Housing and more.

Participants in the program must be willing to promote the program’s mission along with City of Wichita mission and values, show respect for each program participant, identify your own personal and professional goals, maintain acceptable attendance practices for the entire summer program, and do the duties that are assigned to them.

The job may require participants to be physically able to stand and stand for long periods of time, maintain pleasant and polite behavior with other youth and staff, be able to read, write and follow instructions and be willing to learn new skills.
