In a joint effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, residents of Kansas City and Jackson County in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas have been ordered to stay at home beginning Tues, March 24.
The order is to remain in effect for 30 days, until Friday, April 24.
“We are asking our entire community to unite to prevent the spread of this virus and appreciate everyone’s cooperation during this time,” said Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.
Basically, people are only allowed to leave home for essential activities including tasks essential to people’s “health and safety, or to the health and safety of their family or household members (including, but not limited to, pets), or close personal acquaintances.”
Examples of such activities included buying food, medical supplies, or materials to work from home, as well as visiting health care professionals.
Going outside for exercise is allowed but social distancing is encouraged.
Essential services that will remain open inclued laundromats and dry cleaners, restaurants selling take-out and delivery orders, plumbers, electricians, mailing and shipping companies and transportation providers.
Media organizations, gas stations, hardware stores, banks and financial institutions were also deemed essential.
Examples of non-essential activities included “weddings, funerals, wakes, memorial services, or similar gatherings.”
