The ladies of Gamma Chi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. of Wichita held “A Golden Affair” event celebrating 50 years of “Greater Service, Greater Progress” on June 18 at the Holiday Inn Select. The theme for the afternoon was “Big Hats and Bow Ties.”

The ladies were honored to have Sigma Gamma Rho’s International Grand Basileus, Deborah Catchings-Smith in attendance.

Doris Smith received a certificate for being a charter member of Sigma Gamma Rho and Clydean Roberson received an award for 50 year membership in the sorority. A $500 donation was made by the ladies to the Kansas African American Museum.

Bowties of every color were worn by the men in attendance and the ladies adorned themselves in hats of all shapes, sizes and colors making for a beautiful event.

The women strutted their hats in a fashion show. Carla Eckels, assistant News Director at KMUW-FM served as Mistress of Ceremony for the luncheon.
