Wichita has something to be proud of, we think?

If New York is the posterchild for outrageously expensive housing, Wichita is definitely winning points in the affordability category. With four appearances in the Top 10 and no less than 6 in the extended Top 20 Most Affordable ZIP Codes for housing rental.  With rent less than half the national average, Wichita may be the perfect location to live, and should definitely use this fact as a marketing tool.

What are the best locations to find cheap rent?

Wichita zip codes 67213 and 67211 have average rent prices starting around $400/month. Other Wichita Zip codes coming in with average rent under$500 per month, included:  67204, 67218, 67210, 67217, 67203, 67216, and 67207, in order from lowest rent to highest.  The average rent in these Wichita zip codes all came in below $600 per month.

Where is 67214?  Same question we asked, but it didn’t make the list.  Obviously something or some area within 67214 is driving the rental rate up.

Looking to leave Wichita, or Wichita not what you had in mind?  Some other areas with cheap rates are Memphis, (like Wichita, Memphis also had three of the most affordable zip codes in the country), Tulsa, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Flint and Oklahoma City.

Where are the most expensive places for renters?

The posterchild for expensive housing, Manhattan boasts the highest apartment rents in the country, taking 16 out of the top 20 spots. San Francisco’s 94129 and 94105 zip codes take the #4 and #9 spots. Boston was the only other city in the top 20 with one zip code, 02199.

To create this map, we collected apartment rent averages for every state and every zip code in 125 major U.S. markets from Yardi Matrix.
