The members of Beta Kappa Omega, the Wichita alumnae Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., proudly celebrated the chapters 80th Anniversary with a weekend of activities June 12-13. Friday’s activities included a Community Service Project at the Boys and Girls Club and an evening gathering of the sisters. On Saturday, the members celebrated the unveiling of the new permanent archives collection of Epsilon Alpha and Beta Kappa Omega material at Wichita Sate University Ablah Library. The evening concluded with an Anniversary Gala at the Drury Hotel. Sheinelle Jones, a Wichita native and weekend anchor on the NBC News Today Show, was the keynote Speaker.
Wichita AKAs Celebrate 80 Years of Sisterhood
During the gala, recognition was given to members with 50 or more years in the sorority. Seated (L-R) are Sandra Rankin, Dr. Sharon Cranford, Josephine Brown (Sheinelle's grandmother) and Bobbye Humphrey. Recognized as new 25 year members were standing (L-R) Trisha Smart Counts and Nicole Guidry Penelton.
