As a barber, Greg Taylor, owner and master barber at G-Class Cuts Barber Salon meets all kinds of people with a number of different jobs and titles.
“I made the observation over the years, just seeing the many things that people are a part of,” Taylor said. “People wear so many hats in the community, so many different responsibilities, different jobs, movements and even within families.”
“So, I decided to put on an event to celebrate that and put a fashion twist on it,” he said.
Taylor created The Hats We Wear rooftop affair for community members to not only show off their fashionable hats, but to also network with each other and meet others, getting to know the different “hats” others wear in the community.
The Hats We Wear event will take place on Sun., Aug. 29 at Corrigan Station, 1828 Walnut St., 5 to 10 p.m. It will feature live music from Church Boii, DJ Macc and speakers Carletta Temple, a local realtor, Christina Williams, co-owner of the Blakk Co. gentlemen’s club and Simeon Taylor, a local author and poet who will all talk about the particular “hats” they wear.
“The speakers will have a very powerful message,” Taylor said.
Brim Life and Style Therapi will also be vendors at the event, selling their custom hats.
William Haskell, owner of Brim Life said he’s very excited to attend the event and showcase his custom hats.
“It’s going to be a very upscale rooftop event, showing homage to people and all the different kinds of hats they may wear,” Haskell said.
Taylor said he’s expecting about 250 people to attend and tickets are still on sale here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/g-class-presents-the-hats-we-wear-rooftop-affair-tickets-161718009921?fbclid=IwAR26Wso_vdIPmchFvfh6qcFwZj_bS8Iv8ruxOVW4Yxl2ErW0XqOR5a7n2jk.
While this is the first event of its kind in Kansas City, Taylor hopes it will become an annual event. .
“Kansas City is a city that loves to dress up and look nice, so the fact that this event involves hats and once people find out the reason, they’re just excited that this is the first event of that nature in KC,” Taylor said.
While not required, it’s suggested you wear your most fashionable and stylish hat to the event.
