Hip-Hop artist, Krizz Kaliko Joins Thanksgiving Week Events Helping Those in Need with Food and Mental Health Services.

Kansas City, Missouri – Hip-Hop artist, Krizz Kaliko has been added as a feature to this year’s line-up of events for the city’s 15th annual Turkey Tuesday, hosted by the KnowJoey? Foundation. Turkey Tuesday focuses on giving back to those in need by providing food for families. The event stretches across two days and goes beyond providing food for the body to supporting the mind too, with a mental health component. Presented by the Kansas City Health Department’s new mental health awareness campaign, “Let’s Win KC”, Krizz Kaliko will participate in a community impact forum focusing on mental wellness at the food distribution event, Wednesday, November 23rd, 10AM at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy, 1622 E. 17th Terrace Kansas City, MO 64108.
Krizz Kaliko has toured the world and garnered millions of fans. Many were introduced to him through his former record label, Strange Music, with Tech N9ne. Krizz has now launched his own label Ear House, Inc. Despite the dance hits and major music success, Krizz has struggled for years with severe anxiety and depression. Although he’s a top performer with a rigorous touring schedule, he actively makes time to support others who are struggling with similar mental bouts, sharing advice and lessons he’s learned through his own journey.
Krizz is participating in Wednesday’s event as part of the “Let’s Win KC” campaign focused on providing low socio-economic neighborhoods with resources to improve their mental health and their overall wellbeing. This is done through education, information, and improved access to resources. The forum will include a Q&A with Krizz Kaliko and other special guests, plus a short concert film screening followed by prize giveaways. Wednesday’s event serves as the “Let’s Win KC” launch with efforts running through early 2023. The campaign includes events, digital content featuring mental health experts and community leaders, and more. To help champion the cause, Krizz will release a brand new “Let’s Win KC” song and video. Some of the filming for the video will occur onsite, so those participating Wednesday could have a chance to be a part of it.
Turkey Tuesday founder, Joseph ‘Joey Cuts’ Thomas says, “Krizz Kaliko’s participation allows us to fulfill our goal of supporting the whole person–mind, body, and soul.” As the title suggests, Let’s Win KC, is a call for the collective community to get involved to support our wellness and ultimate success. According to campaign director, Ken Lumpkins, of the agency, Blue Symphony, “The community has suffered great losses from COVID-19 – loss of jobs, businesses, loved ones, and even some freedoms, which all contributed to a deterioration in our mental health. Our aim is to move from a season of these losses to a winning season by providing the necessary resources.”
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted local communities in many ways. COVID-19 increased anxiety and depression worldwide by 25%. Missouri ranks among states with the highest rates of untreated anxiety and depression (World Health Organization, 2022). Let’s Win KC was designed to help bring awareness of resources available to Kansas Citians to help themselves and each other.
