DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Wichita Public Library (FWPL) organization has announced that the next sale of donated books will be held on Saturday\, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd Street). The event is open to the public and customers may either purchase an FWPL cloth tote bag and fill it for $10 or bring a previously purchased FWPL bag (red\, green\, blue or purple with FWPL logo) and fill it for $5. Library-themed 150th anniversary merchandise will also be sold. \nPaid members of FWPL may attend a special member-only preview book sale on Friday\, July 10 at the Advanced Learning Library from 5 to 6:30 p.m. FWPL memberships range from $15 to $150 and can be purchased at the preview event. A membership application is also available online at wichitalibraryfriends.org/shop. Proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Wichita Public Library by helping to fund literacy initiatives\, branch programs and author events. \nBook donations: \nGifts of books and other materials (music CDs\, magazines\, movie DVDs\, audiobook CDs and sheet music) that are in good condition are accepted year-round at any Library location during open hours. And for many\, this idea became an essential part of understanding the American project and her story\, that these United States are made of multitudes\, of a diverse array of individuals that have (at times painstakingly and imperfectly) come together – whether the first inhabitants of this land\, those brought here in forced servitude\, or those who came in search of freedom and opportunity – to form something greater. And at the same time\, the history of this country is built on the challenges of what that means and the reality of its application. Using material\, political\, and social means\, a vast array of approaches have tried and often fallen short of building unity within the diversity of the American citizenry. And at times\, those same means have resulted in this citizenry devolving further into factions\, seemingly now more divided than ever. But what if instead of seeing these causes for division we were able to recognize the opportunity they provide in bringing us closer together? How might a more spiritual understanding of our humanity and of our inherent oneness help lay the bricks needed to build a more solid foundation of peace and harmony in this country? This summer program provides excellent jazz instruction for middle and high school students interested in improving their skills beyond what they’d normally receive in a traditional public/private school music program. \nIts instrumental combos are led by a faculty of esteemed artist and educators with a focus on style\, history\, theory\, ear training\, song forms\, repertoire\, and musicianship. Additional clinics and masterclasses are presented by national and international jazz musicians and educators. \nAuditions and Camp will be held in the Gem Theater from 1 PM – 3 PM on Sunday\, July 12. Summer camp check in starts Monday\, July 13th at 9:00 am inside the Gem Theater.
