SUMMARY:“The Women of Brown\,” a presentation and discussion by Donna Rae Pearson
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special presentation and community discussion\, “The Women of Brown\,” led by museum specialist Donna Rae Pearson. \nDonna Rae will share the stories and contributions of twelve Black women\, often overlooked\, who were the forefront of the civil rights movement as plaintiffs in the landmark Brown vs Board of Education case. Their courage and determination were essential to the story of the Brown decision and its impact on American society. \n\n\nFREE and open to the public \n\n\nCoffee and pastries provided \n\n\nValidated parking \n\n\nWheelchair accessible \n\n\nAbout the Speaker \nDonna Rae\, a Master’s degree in History from Wichita State University with an emphasis in Public History\, is a curator at the Kansas Historical Society’s Kansas Museum of History. Her role as a curator is not just a job but a passion she brings to life through her work. Before her current role\, she was the Local History Librarian at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library\, where she taught people how to conduct research and worked to preserve the stories of the Topeka community. Her influence extends beyond her professional roles\, as she is a commissioner on the Local Landmarks Commission and the Planning Commission in Topeka. \nThis program is made possible by Humanities Kansas.
