With the introduction of WPS’ new online learning format, MySchool Remote, many parents have undertaken the primary role of insuring their student is properly educated, through online connection to their teacher inside the school building. Since the new format rolled out in early Sept., demands have increased for technology support for families.
In response, WPS has begun utilizing three locations – North High Library, South High Cafeteria, and Alvin E. Morris Administrative Center (AMAC) as Family Help Centers to provide extra support. Family Help Centers are open from 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 3:10 p.m. until Fri., Sept. 25. This week, evening hours are in place at AMAC on Mon. and Wed. from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The help centers provide in-person support for families across the district in three areas: technology support, tutorial help for Microsoft Teams and SeeSaw, and student counseling. Technology distribution will not occur at these locations, but parents can expect help in troubleshooting technology problems with district-provided devices like laptops, Chromebooks, iPads and Mifi devices.
Family Help Centers are providing bilingual support for families with home languages in Spanish and Vietnamese. Masks and social-distancing is required in all district buildings.
If families are not able to utilize the Family Help Centers, the district’s Helpdesk line may be able to assist. Call the Helpdesk at 316-973-HELP (4357), Mon. – Fri. from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Families can also review Parent University tutorials on the WPS YouTube channel.
In addition, the district has also re-opened up the Homework Hotline for more instructional, after-hours support. Any K-12 student or parent needing assistance with schoolwork can call 316-973-4411 or email email@example.com with questions. Operators will serve students through Microsoft Teams; when you call or email, your information will be taken and a teacher will send an invitation for a Homework Hotline team meeting.
The Homework Hotline is staffed with certified teachers who can assist any grade level concern in English and Spanish. The hotline is open Mon. through Thurs., from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m.
