Parker-Givens at the Urban League of Kansas EOD Banquet

BREAKING NEWS:  Captain Wanda Parker-Givens, of the Wichita Police Department has been selected by Chief Gordon Ramsay as the department’s new Deputy Chief.  The surprise announcement of Parker-Givens selection was made at the Urban League EOD Awards Program last night (Thurs. Oct. 10).

Darrell Givens, was on stage to accept the award for Kansas Small Business Honoree for Givens Disaster Restoration, but surprised those in attendance by ending his speech with the announcement of his wife’s promotion.

Parker-Givens is once again making history in the WPD.  She started her career with WPD in 1987 and after 10 years of stellar service, became the department's first Black female Sergeant in February 1997.  She made history once again when she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in May 2000; again a Black female first.

She most recently has been serving as Captain of WPD’s Patrol West Bureau.

Organizationally, Deputy Chiefs fall under and report directly to Chief Ramsay.
