A free community baby shower for Northeast Wichita will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the new Healthcore Clinic, 2707 East 21st St. North.

Guests are encouraged to enter on the west side of the building.

Expectant moms, new parents, family members and other caregivers are welcome.

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan is co-hosting this event with Healthcore Clinic to help expectant and new mothers understand the resources and support available to them during their pregnancy. Additionally, moms-to-be can learn how to get the most from their health plan.

The baby shower will include presentations about prenatal care, well-baby care and the importance of getting babies immunized. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an educational presentation. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Attendees will also receive information about UnitedHealthcare’s Healthy First Steps case management program and Baby Blocks, a free online wellness-incentive program. Baby Blocks helps parents manage doctor visits and other baby care during pregnancy and the first 15 months of a child’s life. The program sends users email appointment alerts and wellness-related text messages, connects users directly with maternity nurses, and rewards users for keeping appointments. Rewards include gift cards to retail outlets, and maternity-related items such as teething rings, diaper bags and thermometers. Healthy First Steps and Baby Blocks are provided at no cost to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan participants.

The baby shower is part of a series of community events taking place throughout Kansas by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan to provide expectant moms and new parents with important prenatal and well-baby care resources and information.
